"Are you going back to the lab?" Jeff asked Julian as they walked out of the hospital

"You didn't come to visit Chloe out of concern. You are here to fish for information," Julian said, displeased.

"You are right." Jeff didn't deny the accusation. As always, being frank was helpful to earn trust. Jeff noticed the look of wariness on Julian subsiding. "I was probing because I'm worried for Peyton, Reed, Emma, and Hans."

Julian sighed, sharing Jeff's concern. "Perhaps we should tell DI Ryan what's happened to Owen today."

"That's one possibility."

"What's the other one?"

"How does one get murdered by the heart?"

Julian shrugged. "I suppose he has a heartbreak today since he’s just broken up with Chloe."

"Well, he didn’t look very sad. And today's Wednesday."

"Well, none of them has actually died either. The notes aren't coming true exactly as they were written."

"That's right." Jeff nodded. "Let’s hope it stays this way."

"I'll keep an eye on Peyton tomorrow."

"Good idea. We can all go for dinner after work. Then, we'll drive Peyton home and make sure nothing happens to him."

"We can’t stay with him for the entire night. Don’t you have another lecture on Friday?"

"We can stay with him till ten or eleven. Once he’s back home, he’s safe."

"That’s true. But Peyton doesn't go out with me." Julian frowned.

"Why not?"

"Well, he’s the cool guy and I’m a nerdy guy."

Jeff chuckled. "Doesn’t that end in high school? Besides, aren’t all of you equally nerdy?"

"Don’t let him hear that. He sees himself as an attractive man. Perhaps, insufficient to be a celebrity, but capable to attract a second glance from many girls."

Jeff nodded, agreeing with the analysis. "Does he go out with Reed?" Jeff asked, focusing on his aim of keeping Peyton from danger.

"He does, I think."

"Then, it'll work. I'll treat you, Reed and Peyton to an expensive restaurant. Now, tell me about Peyton’s girlfriends."

"I’ve already told you. I don’t know." Julian shook his head.

"You must know something," Jeff insisted.

"No, I’m the wrong person to ask. I never notice such things and I can’t really tell the difference between platonic friends and a couple."

Jeff frowned; he wondered who else he could ask.

"Anyway, I doubt Chloe’s words."

"Why?"

"She told the police her assailant was taller than her."

"And?"

"She’s five feet eight. There aren’t many girls taller than her."

"We don’t need many. We just need one."

"And I also found out that there was a basketball game on Monday."

"And?" Jeff sought clarification from the analytical man.

"I thought it was unlikely to be a hate crime because the incident happened on a Monday. But if there was a match, then things were different."

"Right." Jeff agreed.

"Perhaps it was all just coincidences. Arthur wrote about Owen and his brain on Wednesday because of the qualifying exam. And subconsciously, Arthur might be thinking about the hate crimes when he wrote about Chloe. She was the only young female in our lab and the acid attacks had been widely reported."

"There’s still the sandwich."

"Right. But Arthur was also generally unpopular. His teaching score is only one."

"What’s the highest?"

"Five."

"That isn’t too bad.
